HortonDr. Seuss books have long been a great way for kids to learn to read. Why not let other subjects share the fun? Seussville University is full of learning games in reading, as well as science, reasoning and math. Each section is hosted by classic Dr. Seuss characters—noted tree-hugger the Lorax is in charge of science, and master of persuasion Sam-I-Am oversees the reasoning section.

Seussville U. promises “lots of good fun that is funny.” The games are indeed fun, and call on students’ abilities to classify animals as mammals, and put kids’ memories to the test with a game of Concentration.

The only downside I could find was the games were short on replay value—once you master a game, it doesn’t change. Also, the Hooray for Diffendoofer Day! game appears to be broken. To make up for it, you can also download and print activity worksheets for kids to work on.

Have your students give Seussville University a try. And if they don’t like it, just ask them would they, could they, on a boat? Would they, could they, with a goat? –BILL FERRIS
