EEK! – Environmental Education for Kids is Nothing to be Afraid of
November 7, 2007
I am often asked why I decided to pursue a graduate degree in Forestry at Wisconsin. I usually have some stock answers to give: I like the outdoors, I like trees, I look good in work boots and hard hats (ahem). I only wish I’d found EEK! earlier. Not only does this site, sponsored the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources, provide insight into how to become a Forester, it is chock-full of useful information about the environment and nature for students of all ages.
Be sure to check out the Cool Stuff page full of games and activities like building a birdhouse and information on how to initiate a Fall Scavenger Hunt. This site is an important resource for budding environmentalists and anyone who wants to learn more about the environment and what the consequences are for how we interact with it.
Although I am out of school now (OR, my forestry degree is behind me), I can still keep up with bird migration patterns, tree trivia, and reading through compost recipes. That is, as soon as I move the mountains of paperwork off my desk – forestry of another sort! –DAVID BARGER
