See Art through the Ages with Timeline of Art History
December 10, 2007
All great artists must have a working knowledge of what came before them. So whether you teach an art history course, or a studio class like painting or sculpture, your students will benefit from learning about great works of the past. If you want to give students a taste of art through the ages without eating into your skimpy supplies budget, send them to this Timeline of Art History.
Presented by the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the timeline showcases artistic works since…well, pretty much all of human history. Search by chronology or geography and uncover a golden statue of a pharoah, early cave paintings, or jars from China’s Ming dynasty. Read thematic essays covering everything from Byzantine art to how various rulers have shaped the art of their kingdoms. If it’s art, it in there, and you can access all of it without expensive textbooks or time machines. -BILL FERRIS
