A Fine and Dandy Collection
March 14, 2008
In the literary line-up of old white guys, there is one writer who consistently captures the attention of the so easily bored high school readers. Stylish, scandalous, and sharply witty, Oscar Wilde rakes in some major cool points. Your course textbook may already include “The Importance of Being Earnest,” but if you’re looking to expose your students to some of Wilde’s less read works, check out The Oscar Wilde Collection.
You can use this site to print out excerpts to read in class or have your students go to the site themselves and pick a story to do a project on. The collection is scant on Wilde’s poetry, but everything else seems well represented. It’s like being able to give each of your students their own copy of The Portable Oscar Wilde without paying 20 bucks a pop and worrying about the wear and tear of locker storage. -MARIELLE PRINCE
