Kids Art for Kids Art’s Sake
April 1, 2008
When I was in school, we had to choose our elective classes carefully– following one of several paths towards music, art, drama, band, gym, or ROTC. Once you were in one of those electives, though, that’s where you stayed more often than not. I excelled at drama, but was I also interested in art. Unfortunately, my schedule wouldn’t allow me to take the required core courses as well as more than one elective. Now here I am, still trying to draw with no sort of art education, but I’m a better actor than David Hasselhoff. Lucky for your students who might be in similar dilemmas, Princeton Online’s Incredible@rtDepartment has compiled this list of links to help them hone and own their artistic skills from home.
There are more resources here than you can shake a stick at, and the topics range from cartooning to painting to art terms and tutorials. They’ve got enough art-based games and activities here to keep anyone busy for months. If your students want to get exposure to more than one art form before they hit high school, this might be a great place to get them started. Most of the tools here are geared for younger students, but there are also plenty of activities and art projects that you could cater for teens, too. -JEREMY S. GRIFFIN
