Mutual of Omaha’s Wild Kingdom
December 3, 2008
I’ve personally never been a fan of Animal Planet. I mean, they have a show called, Groomer Has It for cryin’ out loud. However, they’ve earned a couple extra credit points by airing new episodes of Mutual of Omaha’s Wild Kingdom. Whether you’re a fan of the original series, begun in 1963, or you just like to see how lions, sharks and cobras survive in the wild, you’ll want to check it out. Thanks to the internet, you can access lots of clips for free via Hulu.com. Of course, if Hulu is blocked at your school, or you’d rather have a DVD, you can buy episodes really cheaply (around $2 plus shipping for used discs) on Amazon.
Students need visual aids to fully appreciate the beauty, majesty and ferocity of wild animals. If a trip to the zoo isn’t in your budget, a little classic television may be exactly what the zookeeper ordered. Even if it is on Animal Planet. -BILL FERRIS
