See snapshots of the Great Depression from the Library of Congress
June 2, 2009
As a reminder that things can always get worse, the Library of Congress has released several photos from the Great Depression on the photo-sharing site Flickr. The LOC has posted some of the most frequently requested photos from their collection as free digital images in their FSA/OWI Favorites set. Like other LOC photo collections on Flickr, you and your class can tag and comment to your heart’s content.
Images are a powerful communication medium, and these photos would be great to help your next American History or economics lesson hit home. -BILL FERRIS

I also showed my students this article about one of the girls in the photo: http://www.cnn.com/2008/LIVING/12/02/dustbowl.photo/index.html?eref=rss_topstories
It would seem that in the current economy student interest in the Great Depression is increased. This is a great time to use these photos to students either as a creative writing assignment or a reflective assignment about history and current situations
