Any time there is a good merger of the study of history and the use of technology, it’s a surefire Instructify post. This is the case with the site Show Me from our friends on the British Isle. Show Me is a cataloging of the best (and most fun) resources from museums and galleries across the United Kingdom. It’s a great idea — with as many museums and historical locations as Britain has, it’s a lot easier to collect all the kid-friendly content in one place rather than having to go to each museum’s web site.
Probably the best way to enter the site is via their pick a topic page which lets you select from broad topics like the Tudors, dinosaurs, Romans, and many others. From there you will see all the resources available for that subject and any sub category. There you will find writings on the subject, possible places to visit, and interactive games dealing with the historical era or subject.
The games are quite well done and actually pretty informative historically. However, these games deal primarily with British history (big surprise) so American students may be a bit stumped by questions deemed easy in the game (like who built Hadrian’s Wall), whereas if you grew up in Britain that’s a gimme question. That said, Show Me is an excellent resource for students who are preparing to learn about world history and want a more interactive approach to the subject.
