This includes keyword research, competitor analysis, and content optimization, among others. SEMrush’s Keyword Research Tool, for instance, shows impressive extended information for both paid and organic research including keyword difficulty, volume trend, and position changes. In addition, you get daily updates in ranking, which should prove advantageous for marketers in need of up-to-date insights for action.
On the other hand, the platform’s Competitive Analysis feature includes multiple tools to identify the websites you compete with, and gain insight on the keywords they rank in. This helps paint a picture of the high-value keywords were your competitors are doing better compared to you. Moreover, SEMrush also offers PPC data. SEMrush’s basic plan, called Pro, is a great foray into Internet marketing. At $99.95 a month, the package already includes all the tools the platform has to offer. This should give individuals and small organizations the ability to tackle keyword research, competitor analysis, and link building robustly. The entry level plan also allows digital marketers to work on up to 3 projects at a time. Understandably, this number is smaller compared to other basic plans from other toolkits like Ahrefs or Serpstat. But you do get a slightly better keyword research tool with SEMrush, not to mention more comprehensive insights in terms of traffic analytics.
Speaking of keyword research, SEMrush Pro is limited to 10,000 results per request for domain and keyword analytics. However, you do get an impossible to max-out 3,000 requests per day. In terms of site audit, the lowest-priced paid plan from SEMrush allows up to 100,000 pages to be crawled per month, including a maximum 20,000 pagers per single audit. You can also track 500 keywords across 3 projects, and export the same number using the PPC Keyword Tool. Keep in mind, however, that you will get a limited number of reports per month, and will not have access to either Branded or White Label PDF reports.
Guru includes support for more projects and expanded keyword tracking that’s ideal for in-house teams and smaller marketing agencies.
As its name implies, SEMrush Guru is marketed towards individuals and organizations with some considerable expertise in Internet marketing. And it shows in terms of pricing — $199.95 a month. While it is more expensive compared to the counterpart plans of other marketing toolkits, you do get a considerable upgrade in terms of feature limits. For instance, you can track up to 1,500 keywords, compared to the Pro’s 5. Moreover, you can work on up to 15 projects at a time, while also gaining full access to SEMrush’s Content Marketing platform.
On the other hand, when it comes to site audits, you get to crawl up to 300,000 pages a month. Keep in mind, however, that this plan has the same max daily limit as the Pro. The Guru also offers up to 800 keywords for its On Page SEO checker. It’s not a huge leap from Pro’s 500, considering that the limit of keywords is also shared with the SEO Content Template, and Writing Assistant. Nonetheless, you do get four times the number of reports. Lastly, the Guru allows multi-targeting in position tracking, and historical competitor data up to 2012. Both features are not available in the Pro.
Made for agencies and large companies, SEMrush Business offers upgraded limits for its key features.
For agencies and organizations with extensive web presence, SEMrush recommends its Business Plan at $399.95 a month. The subscription fee is comparable with Ahref’s Advanced plan, but does come in more expensive than Moz and Serpstat’s counterpart packages. Currently, the Business Plan includes all the features from Guru with the addition of white label reports, API access, and Google Data Studio integration. Moreover, you get to manage up to 25 projects and track 5,000 keywords with daily updates.
In terms of competitive analysis, Business does offer a considerable upgrade compared to what Guru is to Pro. For instance, you can crawl 1,000,000 pages per month with the top-tier plan from SEMrush. In addition, the maximum number of pages that can be crawled is beefed up to 100,000. Plus, AMP checks are included in the Business Plan’s Site Audit features.
For social media marketers, Business Plan also allows up to 300 social profiles to be tracked. It’s a pretty decent upgrade compared to Guru’s 100 limit and Pro’s 50 but it’s a feature that can be made the most of by more established agencies. Where you can truly leverage Business is in content marketing. With Pro, you can only use topic research twice. For Business subscribers, you essentially get unlimited queries similar to Guru. But, Business will allow you to manage an unlimited number of Marketing Calendars, while also monitoring up to 200 projects.
Add-ons, Discounts, and Free Trial
While the SEMrush add-ons can be expensive, you do get discounts if you pay for an annual subscription.
Given the breadth and depth of SEMrush’s competitive analysis features, it may be a bit disappointing that complete access to its Competitive Intelligence suite is considered an additional paid feature. For Pro and Guru, it will set you back $167. On the other hand, it’s an additional $67 for those on the Business Plan. For businesses looking to streamline their listings, the platform’s Listing Management service is also a $20 add-on.
If you do want to save money, paying for an annual subscription will give you a 16% discount on monthly pricing. This translates to getting Pro at $83.28 per month, Guru at $166.62 per month, and the Business Plan for $333.28 per month. Certainly, it’s a great markdown, and one that is highly-recommended if you’re already sold on getting SEMrush for your team or organization.
If you’re new, however, or still considering alternatives, consider taking the trial first. It’s a free-version of SEMrush which you can test for about a week for both Pro and Guru plans. Of course, seven days doesn’t sound enough to get a full-picture of a technology’s capabilities. Nonetheless, it does give you access to some of the core features of the platform, including keyword analytics and site audits
